Just as stated, there is a big difference, if you want to do taxidermy get you a few tools together and a dead animal and all of a sudden you “DO” taxidermy. Anyone can “DO” it. It really is pretty simple and a very affordable hobby to start. So a couple hundred bucks and some subjects and BOOM you are a taxidermist. Simple enough, right?
Now if you are still with me and are really serious about “LEARNING” taxidermy you have to have an open mind and a lot patience. The people coming along now have no excuse for not “LEARNING” taxidermy, there is tons of information on the world wide web. Gone are the days of begging an established taxidermist to show you the simplest of techniques, just 25 to 30 years ago if a taxidermist thought you were interested in his trade you couldn’t even get through his door. Technology has changed everything, all of it is right at the tip of your finger and personally I think it is great for the industry as a whole. Every facet of taxidermy is digital now, gone are the hand full of books that a few of our predecessors took the time to write, replaced by online forums such asTaxidermy Talkto “How To” magazine articles, VHS tapes and even the DVD is making way for sites such as Taxidermy Insider. So there is no reason that anyone can’t “LEARN” taxidermy.
There are taxidermy trade shows in nearly every state and many countries now choked full of seminars and new products that you see and can hold in your hands before you ever purchase them. More and more professionals are now offering group and/or one on one workshops tailored to your needs and wants. Some of these however are being replaced by online video series streamed right to what ever device you choose any time you need it such as“Mastering the Fleshing Machine A-Z PLUS”. Taxidermy is constantly evolving as well as how to “LEARN” it, take advantage of these resources because there was a time when they were not available at a click of a mouse or touch of a screen.
